•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee initiated Khadya Sathi Dibas and Police Investiture Ceremony today at a function on Red Road, Kolkata. Introduced by our Government last year, the programme is a reinforcement of our commitment to ensure food security for all people of Bengal. At present, nearly 90% of the state’s population get subsidized foodgrains at Rs.2/= per kg. Beautiful and colourful displays were presented by our “Kanyashree”, “Sabujshree”, “Sabuj Sathi”, “Lok Prasar”, “Safe Drive, Save Life”, “Sukanya”, Under 17 footballers and other teams. The Hon’ble Chief Minister also decorated State Police officers with Police Medals for meritorious service for their courage and gallantry on the line of duty. A new Multi-Super Speciality Hospital at M R Bangur, renovated Ramrikdas Haralalka Hospital for treatment in neurosciences, Mother and Child Hubs at Medical College, Kolkata and Bankura, pollution-free CNG/CBM buses for Durgapur-Asansol area were flagged off today. Individual beneficiaries who do not have a roof on their heads were extended assistance for building their own houses under our “Gitanjali” scheme.

•  The 68th Republic Day celebration was held on Red Road, Kolkata with due honour and dignity. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and all the Hon’ble Ministers of the State Cabinet were present on the glorious occasion where the Hon’ble Governor hoisted the National Flag. March pasts by defence forces personnels and state police forces added colours to the event. A colourful parade and procession with decorated tableaux portraying the State’s culture and heritage were the highlights of the programme. Various developmental schemes of the State Government were also showcased in the parade. Students from various parts of Bengal took part in the colourful parade.

•  The International Kolkata Book Fair, the largest attended Book Fair in the world, is being held at Milan Mela, Kolkata, from January 25th, 2017 – February 5th, 2017, supported by the West Bengal Government. The Focal Theme being Costa Rica this year, eminent Costa Rican litterateur Roxana Pinto López inaugurated this year’s edition along with Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Veteran Bengali poet and litterateur Nirendranath Chatterjee was the special guest on the occasion.

•  On the 2nd day of her visit to the North Bengal Hills, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the official function of the State government to observe Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary at Darjeeling Mall today at 12 noon. West Bengal Government is celebrating ‘Subhas Utasav’ to commemorate the 121st birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The festival is being organised by the Department of Youth Affairs, Govt of West Bengal.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the prize distribution ceremony of Himal Terai Dooars Sports Festival, 2017 in Kurseong today.Thousands of youth from the districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar had taken part in archery, martial arts, football and volleyball competitions under this sporting event that the government had introduced to encourage sports and games in the area and unlock the tremendous potential. The Hon’ble Chief Minister flagged off the 7-day 'Uttarbanga Utsav' to be held across various places in the seven districts of North Bengal. "Banga Ratna" awards were given on the occasion. She laid foundation stones of sevarl projects including a Royal Bengal Tiger Safari in the outskirts of Siliguri, important health services projects of two ESI Hospitals at Siliguri and Haldia, restoration work at Tindharia and Paglajhora on NH 55 and other projects.

•  On the 2nd day of the Bengal Global Business Summit 2017, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took part in the Plenary Session. She announced that the Bengal Global Business Summit, 2017 has drawn an overwhelming response from the industry fraternity from all over the world. 29 countries, 4000 business leaders, took part in two days of hectic collaborations. The Hon’ble Chief Minister announced that West Bengal Government has received new investment proposals of Rs. 2 lakh 35 thousand 290 Crore, nearly 35 Billion US dollars, in this year summit across major sectors like manufacturing, MSME, urban development and transport. Foreign countries like China, Korea have also announced major investments and collaborations in areas like elevated mass transport systems and green cities, she informed. Dr Frank - Jurgen Richter, Chairman, Horasis Global Vision Committee and former Director, World Economic Forum announced that the first ever Horasis Asia meeting in India will be held in Kolkata during 26 -27 November 2017, she informed. The Meeting will witness participation of over 400 top global business leaders from 75 countries, the Hon’ble Chief Minister announced. She also announced that the next Bengal Global Business Summit will be held on 16-17 January, 2018. After the end of the Summit, the Hon’ble Chief Minister left for North Bengal.

•  Hon’ble President of India inaugurated the third edition of Bengal Global Business Summit today in presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The Hon'ble Governor of Bengal, Hon'ble Ministers from Bangladesh, Poland, Hon'ble Vice Governor of China, Hon'ble Mayor of Incheon, Excellency Ambassadors of Italy, Norway, Netherlands, Japan, Romania, Venezuela, Poland, international and national delegates, industry captains, representations from chambers of commerce and industries and distinguished guests. The Summit witnessed an overwhelming participation from 29 countries including Japan, Germany, Poland, Netherlands, Korea, Belgium, Bangladesh, United States of America, UK, Canada, Italy, Russia and China who were keen to explore business possibilities in Bengal. More than 4000 delegates and business leaders are to take part in the discussions to exchange ideas on business collaboration across various sectors in the state.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today inaugurated the 21st edition of ‘Jatra Utsav’. The inaugural ceremony was held at Kachhari Maidan, Barasat. The 32 day-long festival will be held at Barasat on 13 and 14 January and then from 15 January till 13 February at Baghbazar. This year the Shantigopal-O-Tapan Kumar Award-2017 was awarded to Pushpendu Mukherjee, Bijali Sarkar, Amit Kanti Ghosh, Sraboni Sarkar, Aroti Chatterjee, Utpal Ray, Dr. Pravat Kumar Das and Partha Sarathi Bhattacharya.

•  Inaugurating the Baul and Lok Utsav 2017 Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today laid the foundation stone of the upcoming Baul Academy at the onset of the Joydeb Mela at Kenduli in Birbhum. The academy will be named after Joydeb, the 13th-century poet who penned ‘Geet Govinda’. The Hon’ble Chief Minister said that the Government has started the Lok Prasar Prakalpa for Bengal’s folk artistes and around 80,000 artistes have been registered under the scheme.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present in the inauguration ceremony of our “Mati Utsav”, 2017 at “Mati Tirtha”, Burdwan today. She felicitated 21 farmers with Mati Samman award for their extraordinary achievements in the agriculture sector, on the sidelines of Mati Utsav 2017 in Burdwan. The Hon’ble Chief Minister announced that 14 March will be observed as Krishak Divas and ‘Krishi Ratna’ and ‘Krishi Samman’ awards will be given away on that day along with the inauguration of the proposed Mishti Hub.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the conference ‘Shikshak Samipe’, on education at Netaji Indoor Stadium today. The conference is the first State-level one dedicated to discussing and finding ways to address various issues, including ways to improve, higher education in Bengal. College and University teachers, Vice Chancellors of the State dignitaries and officials associated with education sector were present at the conference. The Hon’ble Minister of Education, Partha Chatterjee, was present at the conference. The Hon’ble Chief Minister announced the setting up of Biswa Bangla University in Bolpur.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today chaired the State-levell Administrative Review meeting held at Town Hall. This was the 146th Administrative Review Meeting held by the Hon’ble Chief Minister where progress of development work undertaken by all the departments were discussed.

•   Opposing the Centre’s decision to dissolve the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR), Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said that the central government is “breaking the spine” of the country’s economy. BIFR was constituted for reconstruction of industries and protection of workers. Industries registered in the Board could reconstruct their assets and run the company accordingly, she said.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged people to maintain peace and harmony. She attended the 350th birthday celebrations of Guru Govind Singh on Thursday afternoon at a programme at Shahid Minar. The Hon’ble Chief Minister said a museum on the life and work of Guru Govind Singh will be set up at Rashbehari Avenue. A gate named after Guru Nanak will come up at Dunlop where a big Gurdwara has recently come up.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today inaugurated the third edition of Jangalmahal Utsav from the Medinipur College Ground in Paschim Medinipur district today. She also distributed prizes for the Jangalmahal Cup. The festival will showcase the region’s rich traditional cultural forms including dance forms and folk music. Today dhamsa and madol, two popular folk percussion instruments of the State, were distributed among 480 cultural groups from 24 blocks. While addressing the gathered people, the Hon’ble Chief Minister announced that all the 553 people who received prizes today will be given some sort of jobs by the Government.

This will give more boost to the growing contribution of our state in IT-based products and services.. The Hon’ble Chief Minister also inaugurated battery plant of the Exide industries at Haldia.
