The esteemed personalities in Indian cinema, Salman Khan, Shatrughan Sinha, Mahesh Bhatt, Anil Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha brightened the festival with their gracious presence. Closing ceremony of Bengal Global Business Summit - 2023
•  It was the closing ceremony of Bengal Global Business Summit, 2023. The successful 7th edition has attracted investments for the state, showcased Bengal's vast potential to the world and fortified strategic business partnerships with many countries, said Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. During the two-day summit, West Bengal Government signed 188 MOUs covering various sectors and attracted investments worth Rs 3,76,288 crore.

Inaugural ceremony of Bengal Global Business Summit - 2023
•  West Bengal Government commenced the Bengal Global Business Summit, 2023, at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre. Hon'ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all the dignitaries, delegates, especially those from the 17 partner countries from the international community, his excellencies the Ambassadors and representatives of 30 other countries, captains of Indian industries, all businesspersons and stakeholders who assembled in Bengal to participate in the global meet and contribute to the growth and progress of the State. Durga Puja Carnival - 2023
•  Durga Puja Carnival, 2023 with a huge and colorful procession at Kolkata's Red Road was witnessed by many people. Many dignitaries including Hon'ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were present. Kanyashree Dibash - 2023
•  The historic 'Kanyashree' project completed its 10th year. This project was launched by Hon'ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in 2013. It was awarded the first prize by the United Nations in 2017. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee unveiled officially the cover of a book named 'The Kanyashree Story'. Besides, she declared the annual report of Kanyashree project for the year 2022-23. She inaugurated 'Kanyashree Chatbot' for the convenience of Kanyashree girls. Inauguration of Dhanadhanyo Auditorium - 2023
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the magnificent Dhanadhanyo Auditorium in Alipore, Kolkata. It is a 3-tier state-of-the-art indoor auditorium with a unique shape of a Shankh that symbolizes good luck, peace, and well-being. This auditorium would benefit all talented people across the state, she said. The main auditorium has a seating capacity of nearly 2,000 people and along with this, there is a mini-auditorium with a seating capacity of 540 people, a dedicated area for street theatre, other amenities such as banquet halls, food court, dormitory, cafeteria, car parking and much more. Hon’ble Chief Minister thanked every single person who worked on this project.

Inauguration of 25th KIFF - 2019
•  The introductory programme of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) was celebrated in a glittering ceremony at Netaji Indoor Stadium. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today inaugurated the 25th Kolkata International Film Festival, that came alive with the presence of star actors and directors from India and other countries. She said that cinema has to be made more far-reaching in its influence as it is for everybody around the world. State Government made all arrangements to make this a spectacular festival. Shah Rukh Khan, the brand ambassador of West Bengal and Bengal’s very own Sourav Ganguly were present on the auspicious occasion. The packed stadium witnessed tremendous excitement as the distinguished guests Rakhee Gulzar, Mahesh Bhatt and the guests of honour Volker Schlöndorff and Andie MacDowell took the stage and mesmerised everyone with their wonderful speeches. The next eight days, 366 films will be shown at 17 different venues in the ‘City of Joy’. The Hon’ble Chief Minister expressed her gratitude to all the distinguished guests, invitees, national and international delegates present in the celebration of cinema. Their contribution to the world of cinema was exceptional, she said. She extended her heartiest greetings to everyone and invited all to participate and enjoy the film festival.

Bishwa Bangla Sharad Samman - 2019

Durga Puja Carnival - 2019
•  The State Tourism and Information Culture Department organized the Durga Puja Carnival this year on the Red Road, like every year. This is the fourth year of this spectacular procession on the Red Road. It was decorated with terracotta, that has been named as the 'Rangamatir Bangla'. Led by the Kolkata Police’s Tornado unit – a motorcycle-borne squad of police personnel performed stunts on the bikes. This was followed by traditional dhunuchi dance and then Chhau dance, accompanied by dhaak rolls. After these, the main attraction of the carnival took place – the procession of idols decorated in all their finery on board trailers. Thousands of indigenous and foreign people witnessed the event.

•  The much-loved, much-awaited International Kolkata Book Fair was inaugurated today at the Central Park, Bidhannagar by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This 43rd edition of the fair will continue till 11 February, 2019 with its amazing spread of books from all over the world. Nearly 29 countries are participating in the fair with Guatemala as the theme country. The largest attended book fair in the world, the Kolkata Book Fair has always been the heartthrob of one and all ever since its inception. Hon’ble Chief Minister wished everyone a very, very happy visit to the Book Fair. Books have always been and will continue to be our timeless friend. This year, seven books written by her have been published in the Book Fair, taking the total number of books written by her to 87.

Rangamati Sports Festival, Birbhum
•  The Baul and Lok Utsav was inaugurated today by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee along with prize distribution ceremony of the 7th Jangalmahal Cup and Sports Festival and 1st Rangamati Sports Festival. Thousands of youth from Birbhum participated in the events making them a huge success. All these events have been introduced by the present Government to encourage sports and games as well as preserve and propagate the glorious traditions and culture of the state. Kolkata Christmas Festival - 2018
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present today in the inauguration ceremony of the Kolkata Christmas Festival at Park Street. •  The much-awaited annual festival of melodious songs of Bengal, the Bangla Sangeet Mela, 2018 was inaugurated today by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, at Uttirna. On this occasion, the prestigious Sangeet Mahasamman awards were conferred on Arijit Singh, Shaan, Pratik Choudhury, Ruponkar Bagchi, Monomoy Bhattacharya, Raghab Chatterjee, Sraboni Sen, Debojyoti Bose, Saikat Mitra and Debojyoti Mishra. Also, Sangeet Samman awards were conferred on Gita Choudhury, Jojo, Srikumar Chattopadhyay, Manab Mukherjee, Rahul Chatterjee, Durga Roy, Asim Roy, Mahim Fakir, Bibha Hansda, Saraswati Debi and Sibsundar Das. These awards have been introduced by the present government in 2011 for outstanding contribution to the world of music. To showcase the immensely rich folk heritage of Bengal, the Biswa Bangla Lok Sanskriti Utsav, 2018, introduced by the present government 3 years ago, was also flagged off from the same occasion. Thousands of folk artists from all over the state will be performing in this festival. The Hon’ble Chief Minister invited all to come and have a feel of this wonderful world of songs, music and folk songs over the coming days.

Kolkata International Film Festival - 2018
•  The much-awaited annual festival of cinema in Kolkata unfolds with a spectacular start. The 24th Kolkata International Film Festival has been inaugurated today in the glittering presence of a galaxy of iconic film personalities, international and national delegates, distinguished invitees from all walks of life and thousands and thousands of my film-loving brothers and sisters at the Netaji Indoor Stadium. Gracing the beautiful inaugural session were the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, Bengal’s ambassador Shah Rukh Khan, our own Jaya Bachchan ji, celebrated film personalities Mahesh Bhat, Waheeda Rehman, Nandita Das, Biswajit Chatterjee and many more glorious stars of Indian cinema including those from Bangla Film industry in Tollywood. Also present on the occasion were renowned international film personalities, Majid Majidi, Philip Noyce, Jill Bilcock and Simon Baker. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee informed that over the next 7 days, more than 170 films from 70 countries will be screened across 16 venues making it a true celebration of cinema among all. Australia is the focus country of this edition of the film festival. This year marks the completion of 100 years of Bengali cinema and we are celebrating it in a befitting manner to relive the wonderful facades of the nostalgia associated with our much-loved films and iconic personalities of Bengali cinema. A Bengali Film Directory (1917-2017) was published to mark the historic landmark. •  The annual Durga Puja Carnival was held today at Red Road, Kolkata for the third successive time. Since 2016, this annual carnival is being organised by the State Government. Mahatma Gandhi birth anniversary -2018
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present in the birth anniversary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Bhawan, Beliaghata today. Foundation stones of a new university in the name of Mahatma Gandhi at Purba Medinipur and renovation of Gandhi Bhawan and setting up of Gandhi Museum were laid on the occasion.She informed that Gandhi Bhawan, which was earlier known as ‘Hyderi Manzil’ and where Gandhiji had staged a fast unto death during August-September, 1947 in protest against communal violence, would be acquired by the State government and fully renovated and a new museum would be set up there in honour of Gandhiji. On the first Independence Day, Gandhiji was here in this building in Calcutta, she informed. From today’s occasion, Calcutta University published Gandhiji’s book ‘My Autobiography’ in Santali script (Alchiki) with Bengali transliteration. Hon’ble Chief Minister also informed that decision to set up a new Chair in the name of Mahatma Gandhi at Calcutta University, has been taken. She also informed that the next year, on the occasion of birthday of Gandhiji, the State Government would organise a public rally, ‘Dandi Abhijan’.

Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present on the occasion. Golden songs of yesteryears reliving the Mahanayak were presented in a melodious cultural programme after the awards ceremony. Today, Mahanak Samman was conferred upon actor Paran Bandopadhyay while actor-filmaker Aparna Sen was conferred the Mahaniyak Samman. Among the other recipients, Abir Chatterjee and Mimi Chakraborty received the awards for Best Actor and Actress respectively for their performances in Bangla cinema. The Best director award was given to Manas Mukul Pal. Koushik Ganguli was awarded for the Best Screenplay while Sirsha Roy was awarded for the Best Cinematography. The award for the Best Music Direction was given to both Jeet Ganguly and Anupam Roy. Noor Islam and Samiul Alam received the award for the Best Child Actors.

•  Bengal’s highest civilian awards, Banga Bibhusan and Banga Bhusan, were conferred for outstanding contributions in various fields. Instituted by the present government in 2011, this is the seventh year of the awards and the ceremony was held in a befitting manner in Nazrul Mancha today, in presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The recipients of Banga Bibhushan Samman this year were legendary singer Asha Bhosle, Girija Shankar Roy (academician), Suhrid Kumar Bhowmick (linguist), Samaresh Majumder (writer), Subratra Bhattacharya (footballer), Md Habib (footballer), Prosenjit Chatterjee (actor) and Retd Justice Shyamal Kumar Sen. This year the recipients of Banga Bhushan awards were Sriradha Bandyopadhyay (singer), Arundhati Home Chowdhury (singer), and Partha Ghosh (voice-artist). Himal-Tarai Dooars Sports Festival, 2018
•  During her visit to North Bengal, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present today in the prize distribution ceremony of Himal-Tarai Dooars Sports Festival, 2018, organised by the West Bengal Government in the Mal, Darjeeling. Around 18,500 participants and 805 clubs of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Kalimpong districts took part in archery, martial arts, football and volleyball tournaments under the sports festival. The Hon’ble Chief minister stated that she loves Darjeeling and wants peace, happiness and prosperity to flourish in the hills. 42nd International Kolkata Book Fair - 2018
•  The 42nd International Kolkata Book Fair at Central Park, Salt Lake was inaugurated today in presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The International Kolkata Book Fair will continue from 31st January to 11th February, 2018. Actor Soumitra Chatterjee was felicitated in today's programme for his outstanding contribution to the world of creativity. This year, the theme country is France. •  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present today in the programme ‘Banglar Abas Divas’ organised by the State Government on providing assistance for housing to 5 lakh people in one go at Netaji Indoor Stadium. Khadya Sathi Day - 2018
•  On Khadya Sathi Day, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in a statement said that introduced by the present Government, this scheme ensures food security for all in Bengal. She stated that nearly 9.5 crore people of the State, which is almost 90% of the population of the State get foodgrains at Rs 2/Kg under Khadya Sathi. The Hon’ble Chief Minister informed that 100% digitization of ration cards of beneficiaries under the scheme has been achieved. She informed that from Jangalmahal to the tea gardens, from Singur to Aila affected areas, all across the state, lakhs and lakhs of families are benefitted under the scheme and do not have to worry about food now. She also stated that a strong network of public distribution and food storage system has been built to support the scheme so that people get the benefits under the scheme on time.

69th Republic Day celebration - 2018
•  The 69th Republic Day celebration was held on Red Road, Kolkata with due honour and dignity. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and all the Hon’ble Ministers of the State Cabinet were present on the glorious occasion where the Hon’ble Governor unfurled the National Flag. March pasts by defence forces personnels and state police forces added colours to the event. A colourful parade and procession with decorated tableaux portraying the State’s culture and heritage were the highlights of the programme. Various developmental schemes of the State Government were also showcased in the parade. Students from various parts of Bengal took part in the colourful parade. The Hon’ble Chief Minister congratulated members of the Armed Forces, Police, members of Uniformed Services, students, people from all walks of life and even from far flung places, who took part in today’s ceremonial march past and parade and made it such a spectacular show. She thanked the people at large who turned out in huge numbers to witness the celebration and encourage the participants.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present today in a government programme involving different stakeholders of Cooperative Sector at Netaji Indoor Stadium. Initiated by the West Bengal Government in 2014, this award is conferred for outstanding contribution in television industry. •  On the occasion of birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that “Vivek Chetna Utsav” will be celebrated in all the blocks, municipalities and municipal corporations all over the state from 10th to 12th January, 2018, in association with Ramakrishna Math and Mission. She informed that for unity, peace and harmony Swami Vivekananda is the inspiration for the people. She said that through the festival, the Government wants to spread the message of goodwill and brotherhood among all. She also informed that the Government has taken decision to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s historic address at Chicago in a befitting manner. Around lakh youth will assemble at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan to celebrate the occasion, she said. •  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present today in the inauguration ceremony of “Uttarbanga Utsav” at Kanchenjunga Stadium, Siliguri, during her visit to North Bengal. Inauguration of new official emblem of the state government
•  The own official emblem of the State Government was launched today from a programme at Nabanna, the state headquarters, by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. On the occasion, the Hon’ble Chief Minister announced that from now on, the new official emblem of the state government will feature on all official stationery and displays of the state government. She said that this historic achievement is indeed a new feather in Bengal’s cap after a long wait of 70 years since independence. •  The 23rd Kolkata International Film Festival was inaugurated today in a dazzling programme at Netaji Indoor Stadium. Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan was present to inaugurate this spectacular celebration of cinema. Also present was Shah Rukh Khan, our Brand Ambassador of Bengal. Gracing the colourful occasion were outstanding cine personalities Kamal Haasan, Mahesh Bhatt, Kajol, Kumar Shanu and the noted English filmmaker Michael Winterbottom. Distinguished guests, invitees, national and international delegates from 20 countries and a packed-to-capacity stadium with thousands and thousands of film enthusiasts, witnessed the spectacular event. While expressing her gratefulness to all for their kind presence,Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that the International Kolkata Film Festival is a true connection between stars of Hollywood, Bollywood, Tollywood and Telewood. The Hon’ble Chief Minister informed that for the first time, the focus country of this year film festival was UK. She also informed that till 17 November, 2017, 143 feature films, 87 short films, 51 documentaries from 53 countries will be screened across 12 venues in the state. Films will also be screened in select localities in and around the city to spread the spirit of the festival beyond the conventional venues. She also informed that for the first time, films in various traditional languages like Garo, Khasi, Chakma, Boro, Maithili etc will also be screened in the festival.

Teachers’ Day - 2017
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today conferred the Siksha Ratna awards to outstanding teachers of Bengal at the state-level celebration of Teachers’ Day at Nazrul Mancha. It is the teachers who have an overwhelming role in influencing minds and turning them to profound repositories of knowledge and wisdom, she said. •   A ‘song request’ programme - ‘Anurodher Asor’ featuring veteran singers and musicians was held at Nazrul Mancha. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the programme. Music lovers can now listen to wonderful songs and relive the memory of the famous radio programme. •  Recently, Bengal’s dream project ‘Kanyashree’ has won the prestigious first place award from United Nations Public Services. •  “Mahanayak Samman, 2017”, instituted by the West Bengal Government in honour of the legendary Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, was conferred today by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on eminent cine personalities for outstanding contribution in the world of cinema. Lifetime Achievement award was conferred on the distinguished actress, Shakuntala Barua. Awards were also presented to Prosenjit Chatterjee, Nusrat Jahan, Arindam Sil, Bickram Ghosh, Soumik Halder and Padmanabha Dasgupta. Suparnokanti Karati for the film "Bisarjan" and Shiboprasad Mukhopadhyay for the film "Praktan" film were also among the awardees for Best Film and Best Producer categories. •  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee felicitated police personnel at the open-air stage, Uttirna in Kolkata, in a programme, jointly organised by the West Bengal Police and the Kolkata Police. She felicitated police officers of the State for their exceptional work on the line of duty. The award money for the recipients of Sewa Padak, Prasangsha Padak and Nistha Padak will be increased, Hon’ble Chief Minister announced. The new infrastructure set up are 108 police stations, of which 80 are women’s police stations, five police commissionerates (with a sixth one almost ready), she added.

Six anniversary celebration of present government
•  On May 20, 2011, Mamata Banerjee took oath as the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal in Raj Bhavan. The state government celebrated the sixth anniversary of that occasion, today by releasing two tableaus each from every district headquarters. The theme of the tableaus are ‘Ekotai Sampriti'. The focus is to create a ‘Proud Bengal'. The tableaus which will be released from Nabanna were flagged off by Hon’ble Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and Hon’ble Finance and Industry Minister Dr Amit Mitra. Of the two tableaus, one contain traditional artists who are under the scheme of ‘Lok Prasar Prakalpa'. The other one contain hoardings giving out messages of harmony and unity. The tableaus released from all the 23 districts will go around the districts till 20th June.

•  Bengal's highest civilian award, "Banga Bibhusan" and "Banga Bhusan", were conferred today on eminent personalities for outstanding contribution in respective fields of literature, medicine, culture, film, industry, and public services. The theme for the day was Unity is Harmony. A beautiful cultural program on this theme was presented by a galaxy of distinguished artists and performers from different genres at Nazrul Mancha. "Banga Bibhusan" was conferred on poet Nirendranath Chakraborty, Musician Bappi Lahiri, industrialist Y C Deveswar, actor Soumitra Chatterjee, pulmonologist Dr Dhiman Ganguly and retired IPS Arun Prasad Mukherjee. "Banga Bhusan" was conferred on gastroentologist Dr Abhijit Chowdhury, actor Chapal Bhaduri, Rabindra Sangeet exponent from Bangladesh, Rezwana Chowdhury Bonya, singer Lakkhshman Das Baul, Fakir and Darbesh singer Khidmat Fakir and folk artiste Ganat Rabha.

•  The 22nd Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) was inaugurated today by legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, in the gracious presence of Shah Rukh, Jaya Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Kajol, Parineeti Chopra along with the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and many guests and dignitaries of the industry. The Bengali film ‘The Song of Life’ was screened as the inaugural film. This is the first time that a Bengali film has been selected as the opening film.

Exactly two years ago, on November 10, 2014 she had inaugurated Mother’s Wax Museum by pressing the remote button at the 20th KIFF held at the Netaji Indoor Stadium. Over the past two years, the Wax Museum has become an important tourist destination with the footfall touching 3.25 lakh.

•  Like past years, the Bengal Government honoured today the Best Durga Pujas with Biswa Bangla Sharad Samman 2016. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave away the prizes to the Puja Committees at a programme in Nazrul Manch. This year, Durga pujas organised in foreign countries were included in the list of awardees.

•  For the first time, a unique carnival of Biswa Bangla and other award winning thirty-nine Durga idols was held at Red Road, organized by the State I&CA department. Lakhs of people assembled at Red Road to witness the grand spectacle. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who was present at the grand event, along with distinguished guests and dignitaries, announced that it has been decided to make the event an annual one, in order to offer the world yet another exclusive window to Bengal’s grand Durga Puja festival.

Mahanayak Uttam Kumar Samman - 2016
•  The West Bengal Government today conferred the Mahanayak Award 2016 to noted music director Bappi Lahiri while felicitating the marvels of the Bengali film industry on the eve of 36th Death Anniversary of film legend Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. Awards for the best film were given to Belaseshe and Sankhachil. Kaushik Ganguly and Gautam Ghosh were honoured with Best Director awards. Bisesh Chalachitra Samman for Acting was given to Paran Bandyopadhyay for Cinemawala and Jishu Sengupta for Bomkesh and Rajkahini while Barsa Sera Chalachitra Samman was awarded to Rituparna Sengupta for Belaseshe and rajkahini and Sohini Sarkar for Bomkesh, Rajkahini and Cinemawala. The Barsa Sera Chalachitara Samman for producers went to Sri Venkatesh Films. Noted film music deirector Bappi Lahiri was awarded tha Mahanayak Samman 2016. The awards were instituted in the year 2012, in the memory of the legendary actor Mahanayak Uttam Kumar.

•  The 67th Republic Day was held on Red Road, Kolkata. Hon’ble Governor hoisted the National Flag, in presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and all the Hon’ble Ministers of the State Cabinet. Besides the march pasts, a colourful parade and procession with decorated tableaux portraying the State’s culture and heritage were the highlights of the programme. •  The 40th International Kolkata Book Fair has been inaugurated at Milan Mela Grounds, in presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This year, the theme country is Bolivia and the noted Bolivian author Magela Baudoin graced the occasion. Distinguished writers, publishers, booksellers and book lovers in huge numbers were also present there. For the first time, Vietnam has participated in the International Kolkata Book Fair.

•  The state-level celebration of birth anniversary of ‘Deshanayak’ Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was commemorated in Darjeeling with due dignity and honour. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present with Hon’ble Minister for Sports, Housing and Youth Service, Aroop Biswas, along with senior officials of the state government and many dignitaries from Darjeeling hills and elsewhere. Mati Tirtha, Krishi Katha and Mati Utsav - 2016
•  The “Mati Utsav”2016 was celebrated at Sadhanpur, Bardhaman, in presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and distinguished invitees from different walks of life. On the same day, she inaugurated the permanent structure, ‘Mati Tirtha, Krishi Katha’, a permanent facility for soil-related activities and dissemination of information related to agriculture and agri-businesses. Shealso laid the foundation stone for the “Langcha Hub”, with a Common Facility Centre for the famous langcha, sitabhog and mihidana of Burdwan.

Baul and Folk festival - 2016
•   Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the Baul and Folk Festival, organised for the first time, at Kenduli in Birbhum. The Government has decided to set up “Joydev Baul Academy” in Kenduli, for preservation, research and further development of this rich folk art. Hon’ble Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of the same. Over one thousand Baul singers under the State Lokprasar Prakalpa performed in a chorus in this programme. She also visited the Joydev Mandir in Kenduli and instructed the district administration to draw up plans to spruce up the area befitting to heritage status. The district administration in association with Tourism Department has built a eco-friendly tourist complex near Bolpur, which was named as “Rangabitan” by the Hon’ble Chief Minister.

20th Jatra Utsav - 2016
•  The 20th "Jatra Utsav", has been inaugurated at Kacchari Maidan in Barasat in presence of Hon'ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. ‘Banglar Jibone Jatra’ is the theme, in this year. The 32-day long Jatra Festival will be showcased both at Kacchari Maidan and Phanibhusan Vidya Binode Yatra Mancha in Bagbzar. Sixteen jatra artistes including Nirmal Mukherje, Jayasree Mukherje were felicitated. Three hundred and eleven poor jatra artistes were given financial assistance. Minakshi Dey was given Bina Dasgupta Award.

•  The Bengal Global Business Summit 2016 concluded today with a speech by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Biswa Bangla Lok Sanskriti Utsav - 2015
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated The Biswa Bangla Lok Sanskriti Utsav to promote folk artists. A special floating stage has been set up at Lal Dighi near Writers’ Buildings for the event. •  The closing ceremony of the 20th Kolkata International Film Festival was held at Najrul Mancha. Hon’ble guests included Australian filmmaker Paul Kox, filmmaker Farah Khan, actor and theatre personality Amol Palekar, veteran actor Madhabi Mukherjee and other distinguished personalities. For the first time in its history, the festival turned competitive this year and so many films were awarded the ‘Golden Royal Bengal Tiger’ award.

20th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival - 2014
•  The 20th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival was inaugurated by legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The Chief Guest for the programme was celebrated actor Mr Shahrukh Khan. Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Mr Paul Cox was the Special Guest along with actors Jaya Bachchan, Tanuja, Aisharya Rai Bachchan, Avishek Bachchan and Irrfan Khan as other special guests. The film festival, continuing till November 17, will showcase 140 films from 60 countries. There will be 31 Indian films, including 13 Bengali films. For the first time, the fest turns competitive with 15 films by women directors from across the globe competing for the top jury award, the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger trophy in the Women Directors segment. The inaugural film selected is the Italian movie "Italo Barocco" by Alessia Scarso.

Celebration of 68th Independence Day
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee greeted people on the occasion of Independence Day. She was present at the Independence Day parade at Red Road. Hon’ble Chief Minister unfurled the tricolour on Red Road and received a guard of honour from the Kolkata police. Cultural programmes were held by school children and various artistes at the Red Road venue showcasing the cultural heritage of the country. On this occasion, for the first time in West Bengal, Police Medals and commendation awards were conferred to IPS officers and officials of various departments for their distinguished service by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The state government departments which received the award for commendable service were Department for Panchayat and Rural and Development, Women and Child Welfare, Finance, Small Scale Industries, Health and Family Welfare. The district administration of Hoogly, Nadia, Burdwan and Birbhum were also conferred awards for commendable service in 100 Days Work Scheme. The departments of tourism, information and cultural affairs, women and social welfare department and labour brought out colourful.

Kanyashreee Dibas
•  The first Kanyashreee Dibas was celebrated today in every block of the State. Today at the State-level celebrations at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ceremonially transferred the grants of Kanyashree to the bank accounts of almost four lakh girl students around the state. The Chief Minister felicitated fifty girl students for their achievement in different competitions, as well as distributed prizes to three best districts, three best schools and three best colleges for their contribution to the Kanyashree scheme.

Mahanayak Uttam Kumar Samman - 2014
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, at the annual Mahanayak Uttam Kumar Samman at Nazrul Mancha, felicitated cine personalities for their contribution to the Bengali film industry. The awards were instituted in the year 2012, on the initiative of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, in the memory of the legendary actor Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. Veteran actor Mousumi Chatterjee and Bengali film star Dev were the recipients of this year`s Mahanayak Samman (Female and Male respectively). Moonmoon Sen was awarded the Mahanayika Samman. Actors, Chiranjeet Chakraborty, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Mamata Shankar and Debashree Roy were feted with Lifetime Achievement Awards. Special Film Awards were presented to actors Arindam Sil, Hiran Chatterjee, Abir Chatterjee, Indranil Sengupta, Ankush Hazra, Ritwik Chakraborty, Kharaj Mukherjee, Rudranil Ghosh, Mimi Chakraborty,Sayantika Banerjee, Paoli Dam, Nusrat Jahan, Sreela Majumdar and Anuradha Roy. Veteran playback artiste Kumar Sanu was felicitated with Lifetime Achievement Award for Music , while Special Film Awards (Music) were presented to Shibaji Chattopadhyay, Arundhati Home Chowdhury and Adhir Chatterjee. Special Film awards for cinematography were given to Sirsha Roy and Shoumik Haldar while that of Editing was given to Bodhaditya Banerjee and Debkanta Chakraborty. Surinder Films received the Special Film award for the best Producer. Dipankar Chaki and Goutam Nag were awarded for sound recording while Azad Ahmed received the award for makeup. The award for art direction was given to Tanmoy Chakroborty and Goutam Bose while that for costume went to Sabarni Das. Special film awards for Direction were bestowed to Swapan Saha, Kamaleshwar Mukherjee and Prodipto Bhattacharyya. Hon’ble Chief Minister, on the occasion said that she firmly believed that the golden era of Bengali film and television industry will return. She said that it was necessary to honour talent in Bengal.
