Kolkata International Film Festival - 2018
•  The much-awaited annual festival of cinema in Kolkata unfolds with a spectacular start. The 24th Kolkata International Film Festival has been inaugurated today in the glittering presence of a galaxy of iconic film personalities, international and national delegates, distinguished invitees from all walks of life and thousands and thousands of my film-loving brothers and sisters at the Netaji Indoor Stadium. Gracing the beautiful inaugural session were the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, Bengal’s ambassador Shah Rukh Khan, our own Jaya Bachchan ji, celebrated film personalities Mahesh Bhat, Waheeda Rehman, Nandita Das, Biswajit Chatterjee and many more glorious stars of Indian cinema including those from Bangla Film industry in Tollywood. Also present on the occasion were renowned international film personalities, Majid Majidi, Philip Noyce, Jill Bilcock and Simon Baker. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee informed that over the next 7 days, more than 170 films from 70 countries will be screened across 16 venues making it a true celebration of cinema among all. Australia is the focus country of this edition of the film festival. This year marks the completion of 100 years of Bengali cinema and we are celebrating it in a befitting manner to relive the wonderful facades of the nostalgia associated with our much-loved films and iconic personalities of Bengali cinema. A Bengali Film Directory (1917-2017) was published to mark the historic landmark. A beautiful cultural performance on the occasion staged by the legends of Bengal’s amazing cultural world enthralled the huge audience. Hon’ble Chief Minister extended her heartiest greetings to all on the occasion of this beautiful carnival of films.

Durga Puja Carnival - 2018
•  The annual Durga Puja Carnival was held today at Red Road, Kolkata for the third successive time. Since 2016, this annual carnival is being organised by the State Government. Nearly 75 puja committees participated in today’s carnival. Guests from foreign countries and common people witnessed the procession along with Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Mahatma Gandhi birth anniversary -2018
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present in the birth anniversary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Bhawan, Beliaghata today. Foundation stones of a new university in the name of Mahatma Gandhi at Purba Medinipur and renovation of Gandhi Bhawan and setting up of Gandhi Museum were laid on the occasion.She informed that Gandhi Bhawan, which was earlier known as ‘Hyderi Manzil’ and where Gandhiji had staged a fast unto death during August-September, 1947 in protest against communal violence, would be acquired by the State government and fully renovated and a new museum would be set up there in honour of Gandhiji. On the first Independence Day, Gandhiji was here in this building in Calcutta, she informed. From today’s occasion, Calcutta University published Gandhiji’s book ‘My Autobiography’ in Santali script (Alchiki) with Bengali transliteration. Hon’ble Chief Minister also informed that decision to set up a new Chair in the name of Mahatma Gandhi at Calcutta University, has been taken. She also informed that the next year, on the occasion of birthday of Gandhiji, the State Government would organise a public rally, ‘Dandi Abhijan’.

co-ordination meeting for Durga Puja - 2018
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present today at the yearly co-ordination meeting for Durga Puja 2018 at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata, at Netaji Indoor Stadium. The meeting is organised by the Kolkata Police and the KMC. At the meeting, the Hon’ble Chief Minister announced that this year the annual Durga Puja Bishorjon Carnival will be held at Red Road on October 23. Last year, 55 clubs participated, this year, more than 70 clubs are expected to participate, she announced.

Teachers’ Day celebration - 2018
•  The State-level Teachers’ Day celebration was organised by the government for the first time in Darjeeling. On this auspicious day, foundation stone of the new Darjeeling Hill University at Mungpoo was laid by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

'Jai Hey' - 2018
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present in ‘Jai Hey’, the annual cultural event of Kolkata Police at Netaji Indoor Stadium today. This is a day that is dedicated to all the family members of the force, whose unstinting encouragement, support and sacrifice go a long way towards the 24x7 contribution the police force makes with a smile for safety and security of the citizens. Schools and the Tornado team of Kolkata Police who displayed outstanding performance in the Independence Day celebration programme at Red Road were felicitated on the occasion.

72 Independence Day
•  Independence Day is being celebrated everywhere with due dignity and honour. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee unfurled the National Flag today at the state-level programme at Red Road, Kolkata. Ceremonial march past by members of the police force, colourful tableaus highlighting flagship programmes of the state government, beautiful cultural programme by school children from all over the state, performance by folk artists of Lok Prasar Parakalpa depicting the rich cultural heritage of Bengal and special show by police on motorcycles enthralled the huge audience from all walks of life. Medals were awarded to members of the police force for distinguished service. She paid homage at the Netaji Statue and at the Police Memorial today.

Kanyashree Divas - 2018
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present was present in the ceremony of the fifth Kanyashree Divas amidst thousands and thousands of Kanyashree girls from all over the state at the Netaji Indoor Stadium. Today, she announced setting up of new Kanyashree University for Kanyashree students, skill development training for enhancing employability of Kanyashree girls and removal of income ceiling criteria so that more and more girls can get benefit under the scheme.

‘Mahanayak Samman’ - 2018
•  ‘Mahanayak Samman’ and other prestigious awards in memory of the legendary matinee icon, Uttam Kumar, instituted by the present government in 2012, were conferred today for outstanding contributions in the world of cinema in a beautiful programme at Nazrul Mancha. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present on the occasion. Golden songs of yesteryears reliving the Mahanayak were presented in a melodious cultural programme after the awards ceremony. Today, Mahanak Samman was conferred upon actor Paran Bandopadhyay while actor-filmaker Aparna Sen was conferred the Mahaniyak Samman. Among the other recipients, Abir Chatterjee and Mimi Chakraborty received the awards for Best Actor and Actress respectively for their performances in Bangla cinema. The Best director award was given to Manas Mukul Pal. Koushik Ganguli was awarded for the Best Screenplay while Sirsha Roy was awarded for the Best Cinematography. The award for the Best Music Direction was given to both Jeet Ganguly and Anupam Roy. Noor Islam and Samiul Alam received the award for the Best Child Actors.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today felicitated and interacted with the toppers of Alim, Fazil and High Madrasah Examinations, 2018 at Nabanna. She said that it was indeed a great pleasure for her to know that many of these young students aspired to become doctors, engineers, teachers or join government service as members of IAS, IPS, WBCS and WBPS. Banga Bibhusan and Banga Bhusan - 2018
•  Bengal’s highest civilian awards, Banga Bibhusan and Banga Bhusan, were conferred for outstanding contributions in various fields. Instituted by the present government in 2011, this is the seventh year of the awards and the ceremony was held in a befitting manner in Nazrul Mancha today, in presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The recipients of Banga Bibhushan Samman this year were legendary singer Asha Bhosle, Girija Shankar Roy (academician), Suhrid Kumar Bhowmick (linguist), Samaresh Majumder (writer), Subratra Bhattacharya (footballer), Md Habib (footballer), Prosenjit Chatterjee (actor) and Retd Justice Shyamal Kumar Sen. This year the recipients of Banga Bhushan awards were Sriradha Bandyopadhyay (singer), Arundhati Home Chowdhury (singer), and Partha Ghosh (voice-artist). From the stage, the Hon’ble Chief Minister announced that the Chief Secretary of the State will personally meet legendary Kathak exponent Pandit Birju Maharaj and felicitate him with Banga Bibhushan award.

Rabindra Jayanti - 2018
•  The state-level celebration of Rabindra Jayanti was held today at Cathedral Road, Kolkata. Legendary personalities from the world of music, culture, performing arts and almost all walks of life were present on the occasion to pay homage to Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore. Renditions of his immortal creations gave a beautiful touch to the ceremony. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the celebration programme.

Civil Services Day - 2018
•   Civil Services Day is observed on 21 April. The West Bengal government has started celebrating Civil Services Day since last year. This year’s programme was held today at Uttirna in Alipore in presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She said that the members of Civil Services play a very crucial role in implementing the policies of the government and carrying forward the development agenda for benefit of the people at large. The Hon’ble Chief Minister took the opportunity to convey her greetings and best wishes to all IAS, IPS and Members of Civil Services throughout the country and the world and their family members on the occasion of Civil Services Day.

22nd Jatra Utsav - 2018
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today inaugurated the 22nd Jatra Utsav at Barasat Kachari Maidan in North 24 Parganas. Department of Information & Culture, Govt of West Bengal and Paschimbanga Jatra Akademi are jointly organising the festival. The 32-day festival will be held at multiple venues. Hon’ble Chief Minister said. Jatra is immensely popular even today among people and has a huge mass connection. Every year, this festival is held with lots of enthusiasm and participation of people across all sectors, she said. Outstanding contributions in the world of jatra were conferred with the prestigious ‘Shantigopal-Tapankumar’ award instituted by the present Government.

Himal-Tarai Dooars Sports Festival, 2018
•  During her visit to North Bengal, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present today in the prize distribution ceremony of Himal-Tarai Dooars Sports Festival, 2018, organised by the West Bengal Government in the Mal, Darjeeling. Around 18,500 participants and 805 clubs of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Kalimpong districts took part in archery, martial arts, football and volleyball tournaments under the sports festival. The Hon’ble Chief minister stated that she loves Darjeeling and wants peace, happiness and prosperity to flourish in the hills. She stated that the Government is committed to keep the hill brothers and sisters smiling always. She urged all to carry on development works with greater thrust. Today, the Hon’ble Chief Minister announced the Government’s decision of setting up of a new university in the hills for enhancement of higher education opportunities of the youth of the area.

42nd International Kolkata Book Fair - 2018
•  The 42nd International Kolkata Book Fair at Central Park, Salt Lake was inaugurated today in presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The International Kolkata Book Fair will continue from 31st January to 11th February, 2018. Actor Soumitra Chatterjee was felicitated in today's programme for his outstanding contribution to the world of creativity. This year, the theme country is France. Mr Alexander Ziegler, HE Ambassador of France was present on the occasion. The Hon’ble Chief Minister also inaugurated several book stalls including those of the Kolkata Police and the West Bengal Police. Nine books authored by the Hon’ble Chief Minister, including two translated versions in Santali and Hindi of her earlier works were published today from the book fair. With these, the number of books authored by her numbered to 79. The Hon’ble Chief Minister announced that the next Kolkata Book Fair will be inaugurated on 19th January, 2019.

Banglar Abas Divas - 2018
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present today in the programme ‘Banglar Abas Divas’ organised by the State Government on providing assistance for housing to 5 lakh people in one go at Netaji Indoor Stadium. The Hon’ble Chief Minister informed that assistance to so many people on a single day in the state is a record. She pointed out that the State Government has already provided assistance to more than 25 lakh families in the state to have their own houses over the last 6 years. Due to such performance, Bengal has been among the top states and No 1 in the country in rural housing sector, she informed.

Khadya Sathi Day - 2018
•  On Khadya Sathi Day, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in a statement said that introduced by the present Government, this scheme ensures food security for all in Bengal. She stated that nearly 9.5 crore people of the State, which is almost 90% of the population of the State get foodgrains at Rs 2/Kg under Khadya Sathi. The Hon’ble Chief Minister informed that 100% digitization of ration cards of beneficiaries under the scheme has been achieved. She informed that from Jangalmahal to the tea gardens, from Singur to Aila affected areas, all across the state, lakhs and lakhs of families are benefitted under the scheme and do not have to worry about food now. She also stated that a strong network of public distribution and food storage system has been built to support the scheme so that people get the benefits under the scheme on time.

69th Republic Day celebration - 2018
•  The 69th Republic Day celebration was held on Red Road, Kolkata with due honour and dignity. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and all the Hon’ble Ministers of the State Cabinet were present on the glorious occasion where the Hon’ble Governor unfurled the National Flag. March pasts by defence forces personnels and state police forces added colours to the event. A colourful parade and procession with decorated tableaux portraying the State’s culture and heritage were the highlights of the programme. Various developmental schemes of the State Government were also showcased in the parade. Students from various parts of Bengal took part in the colourful parade. The Hon’ble Chief Minister congratulated members of the Armed Forces, Police, members of Uniformed Services, students, people from all walks of life and even from far flung places, who took part in today’s ceremonial march past and parade and made it such a spectacular show. She thanked the people at large who turned out in huge numbers to witness the celebration and encourage the participants.

Cooperative Sammelan - 2018
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present today in a government programme involving different stakeholders of Cooperative Sector at Netaji Indoor Stadium. She stressed on the importance of cooperatives in strengthening the rural economy and urged all concerned to come forward and do their best to help the rural sector grow at a faster pace. She said that the Government would give the cooperatives necessary support. Khel Samman - 2018
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present in the ceremony on felicitation and conferment of awards to distinguished sports personalities for outstanding contribution in sports, at Netaji Indoor Stadium today, organised by the Sports Department. Nearly 15,000 clubs are being given financial assistance on the occasion to develop sports infrastructure and encourage sports throughout the state. From today’s programme, Hon’ble Chief Minister announced the Government’s decision of extending health insurance benefits under “Swasthya Sathi” to former players. She said that she wanted the people of the State to excel in sports and bring more honour for the country and the state in the days ahead. She said that the veterans also have a great role to play in encouraging the young generation. She said that the government is committed to extend all assistance for developing sports infrastructure and sports talent in the state.

Tele Academy Award - 2018
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present in the Tele Academy Awards presentation ceremony at Nazrul Mancha today. Initiated by the West Bengal Government in 2014, this award is conferred for outstanding contribution in television industry. On the occasion, the Hon’ble Chief Minister said that the Government is always with the cinema and TV artistes and technicians. She said that the Government has already introduced health insurance benefit for them. Now The Government is extending the coverage amount to extend them more help in times of exigency, she informed. After the award ceremony, a beautiful cultural program was presented by the tele-artistes.

Vivek Chetna Utsav - 2018
•  On the occasion of birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that “Vivek Chetna Utsav” will be celebrated in all the blocks, municipalities and municipal corporations all over the state from 10th to 12th January, 2018, in association with Ramakrishna Math and Mission. Today, the Hon’ble Chief Minister was present in the inaugural ceremony of this important programme at Babughat, Kolkata. She informed that for unity, peace and harmony Swami Vivekananda is the inspiration for the people. She said that through the festival, the Government wants to spread the message of goodwill and brotherhood among all. She also informed that the Government has taken decision to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s historic address at Chicago in a befitting manner. Around lakh youth will assemble at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan to celebrate the occasion, she said. After the inaugural programme the Hon’ble Chief Minister spent some moments with Gangasagar pilgrims at Babughat camp.

Uttarbanga Utsav - 2018
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present today in the inauguration ceremony of “Uttarbanga Utsav” at Kanchenjunga Stadium, Siliguri, during her visit to North Bengal. Started by the present government, this unique festival showcases the beauty of North Bengal with its amazing bounty of nature, rich cultural heritage, immense tourism potential and remarkable achievements of the people of the region. The festival will be celebrated across eight North Bengal districts till 14 January. The State’s highest civilian award, “Banga Ratna” were conferred for outstanding contributions in various disciplines on the occasion to Dr Manas Dasgupta (economist from Darjeeling), Dinesh Chandra Roy (researcher on folk culture of the region from Jalpaiguri), Prem Dorejee Bhutia (social worker of Kalimpong), Dr Debkumar Mukherjee (educationist from Cooch Behar), Malin Chandra Das (folk music instrumentalist of Cooch Behar), Prof. Dr. Dilip Kumar Roy (writer from Alipurduar), Prem Bihari Thakur (retired teacher from North Dinajpur), Prof. Tapas Kumar Kundu (researcher on Molecular Biology from South Dinajpur) and Dr Radhagobinda Ghosh (social worker of Malda). Meritorious students were also felicitated for excellent academic performance. On the occasion of the auspicious “Tithi Puja” of Swami Vivekananda, a statue of the great saint installed in Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan (Sishumangal), Kolkata was unveiled from the “Uttarbanga Utsav” inauguration ceremony today by the Hon’ble Chief Minister through remote control.

Inauguration of new official emblem of the state government
•  The own official emblem of the State Government was launched today from a programme at Nabanna, the state headquarters, by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. On the occasion, the Hon’ble Chief Minister announced that from now on, the new official emblem of the state government will feature on all official stationery and displays of the state government. She said that this historic achievement is indeed a new feather in Bengal’s cap after a long wait of 70 years since independence. She also informed that she had made a small contribution in design of the emblem.

Baul and Lok Utsav - 2018
•  The annual “Baul and Lok Utsav”, ahead of the famous Joydev Mela, was inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Joydev-Kenduli in Birbhum today. Thousands of bauls from all over the state were present creating an amazing aura of captivating baul and folk songs and music and echoing the great heritage of folk arts of Bengal. The Hon’ble Chief Minister today laid the foundation stone of “Baul Bitan”, a new facility for baul singers to propagate their practice and tourism destination. The Hon’ble Chief Minister informed that Government has decided to observe the “Makar Sankranti” day every year as “Lok Prasar Shilpi Dibas” to celebrate the glorious place of folk arts in the cultural world of Bengal.

Jangalmahal Utsav - 2018
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister today inaugurated the fourth ‘Jangalmahal Utsav’, to be held at Jhargram from 3rd to 10th January, was also inaugurated from today’s occasion. Later, the Hon’ble Chief Minister visited some areas of the district and interacted with the local people.

Mati Utsav - 2018
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee was present in the inauguration ceremony of ‘Mati Utsav’, 2018 in Mati Tirtha-Krishi Katha, Purba Burdwan. To strengthen the bonding of humanity with ‘Mati’ (earth), which sustains and nourishes life and provides livelihood to millions of people, the West Bengal Government had started the festival in 2013. The focussed purpose of this event is convergence of agriculture with allied sectors and improving productivity and income of farmers with sustainability. Outstanding contributions in the farming sector were felicitated with “Krishak Samman” awards today.

Bangla Sangeetmela - 2017
•  The ‘Bangla Sangeetmela, 2017’ and ‘Biswabangla Lok Sanskriti Utsav’ were inaugurated at ‘Uttirna’Open Air Theatre today, by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The ‘Bishesh Sangeet Samman’, ‘Sangeet Mahasamman’ and ‘Sangeet Samman’ awards, initiated by the present Government, were conferred on outstanding performers for their glorious contribution to the world of music from today’s programme. The Hon’ble Chief Minister informed that over the next seven days, nearly 5000 artists will present a festival of music across a number of venues in Kolkata. In addition, there will be thousands of folk artists performing in Kolkata and across the districts showcasing the rich and diverse heritage of folk music and culture of Bengal, she informed.

•  The annual Kolkata Christmas Festival was inaugurated today Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Allen Park. Started in 2011, this is the seventh year of festivities. Park Street has been beautifully illuminated befitting Christmas and New Year celebrations and a spirit of festivity is prevailing all around. The Hon’ble Chief Minister said that the people are for peace, unity, harmony and brotherhood and together they celebrate all occasions. Later, the Hon’ble Chief Minister attended a pre-Christmas meet at St Xavier’s College.

23rd Kolkata International Film Festival
•  The 23rd Kolkata International Film Festival was inaugurated today in a dazzling programme at Netaji Indoor Stadium. Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan was present to inaugurate this spectacular celebration of cinema. Also present was Shah Rukh Khan, our Brand Ambassador of Bengal. Gracing the colourful occasion were outstanding cine personalities Kamal Haasan, Mahesh Bhatt, Kajol, Kumar Shanu and the noted English filmmaker Michael Winterbottom. Distinguished guests, invitees, national and international delegates from 20 countries and a packed-to-capacity stadium with thousands and thousands of film enthusiasts, witnessed the spectacular event. While expressing her gratefulness to all for their kind presence,Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that the International Kolkata Film Festival is a true connection between stars of Hollywood, Bollywood, Tollywood and Telewood. The Hon’ble Chief Minister informed that for the first time, the focus country of this year film festival was UK. She also informed that till 17 November, 2017, 143 feature films, 87 short films, 51 documentaries from 53 countries will be screened across 12 venues in the state. Films will also be screened in select localities in and around the city to spread the spirit of the festival beyond the conventional venues. She also informed that for the first time, films in various traditional languages like Garo, Khasi, Chakma, Boro, Maithili etc will also be screened in the festival.

Carnival of Biswa Bangla - 2017
•  The State Government organized the unique Durga Puja Carnival at Red Road, Kolkata. Noted puja organisers with idols of Ma Durga took part in this colourful programme accompanied by beautiful processions depicting the rich cultural heritage of Bengal, the harmony and unity of Bengal, the pioneering state government schemes like Kanyashree, Sabuj Sathi, the forthcoming U-17 World Cup and many, many interesting themes. Teachers’ Day - 2017
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today conferred the Siksha Ratna awards to outstanding teachers of Bengal at the state-level celebration of Teachers’ Day at Nazrul Mancha. The Hon’ble Chief Minister said that teachers have a remarkable contribution in shaping students to become good human beings and lead the nation. It is the teachers who have an overwhelming role in influencing minds and turning them to profound repositories of knowledge and wisdom, she said. She extended her best wishes and respectful regards to teachers all over the state, country and the world. In today’s programme, she announced that the medical insurance scheme the ‘Swasthya Sathi’ health scheme will cover teachers from now. She also announced that there was a plan to include from next year Class VIII students in the Sabuj Sathi scheme, where cycles are being distributed among students.

‘Anurodher Asor’ - 2017
•   A ‘song request’ programme - ‘Anurodher Asor’ featuring veteran singers and musicians was held at Nazrul Mancha. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the programme. In the programme, the journey to the world of glorious Bengali songs including Puja releases began today with renditions by some of the best known voices. Music lovers can now listen to wonderful songs and relive the memory of the famous radio programme. A CD of songs, “Matri Ma”, written and composed by the Hon’ble Chief Minister and sung by Indranil Sen, Lopamudra Mitra, Raghav Chatterjee, Rupankar Bagchi and Monomoy Bhattacharyya, was released on the same stage. CDs of many eminent singers with wonderful collection of songs were also released on the occasion.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wished all on the occasion of the 71st Independence Day which was observed in a befiiting manner throughout the State. The ceremonial march past and celebration of Independence Day was held at Red Road, Kolkata today. Contingents from police, personnel in uniform, school students, cultural and sports groups, tableaus from various departments on themes like Safe Drive Save Life, Kanyashree, Saboojshree, Sabujsathi, Khadyasathi, Biswa Bangla and so many others took part in the beautiful event attended by a huge enthusiastic gathering and distinguished persons from all walks of life. Outstanding police officers were decorated with Police Medals for distinguished service. Kanyashree Utsav
•  Recently, Bengal’s dream project ‘Kanyashree’ has won the prestigious first place award from United Nations Public Services. Thousands of ‘Kanyashrees’ had assembled to celebrate the winning at Netaji Indoor Stadium. Hon’ble Chief minister mamata Banerjee felicitated the successful Kanyashree girls on the day. She introduced the launch of K-3 project for university students. The Government will give monthly stipend of Rs 2500 to girl students who score 45% marks. Mahanayak Samman, 2017
•  “Mahanayak Samman, 2017”, instituted by the West Bengal Government in honour of the legendary Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, was conferred today by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on eminent cine personalities for outstanding contribution in the world of cinema. Lifetime Achievement award was conferred on the distinguished actress, Shakuntala Barua. Awards were also presented to Prosenjit Chatterjee, Nusrat Jahan, Arindam Sil, Bickram Ghosh, Soumik Halder and Padmanabha Dasgupta. Suparnokanti Karati for the film "Bisarjan" and Shiboprasad Mukhopadhyay for the film "Praktan" film were also among the awardees for Best Film and Best Producer categories. A beautiful cultural program by eminent artistes was presented in Nazrul Mancha on the occasion. The Hon’ble Chief Minister said that Bengal’s cinema has a great place of distinction in the country and the world.

Felicitation program of kolkata police & West Bengal Police
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee felicitated police personnel at the open-air stage, Uttirna in Kolkata, in a programme, jointly organised by the West Bengal Police and the Kolkata Police. She felicitated police officers of the State for their exceptional work on the line of duty. The award money for the recipients of Sewa Padak, Prasangsha Padak and Nistha Padak will be increased, Hon’ble Chief Minister announced. The new infrastructure set up are 108 police stations, of which 80 are women’s police stations, five police commissionerates (with a sixth one almost ready), she added.

Six anniversary celebration of present government
•  On May 20, 2011, Mamata Banerjee took oath as the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal in Raj Bhavan. The state government celebrated the sixth anniversary of that occasion, today by releasing two tableaus each from every district headquarters. The theme of the tableaus are ‘Ekotai Sampriti'. The focus is to create a ‘Proud Bengal'. The tableaus which will be released from Nabanna were flagged off by Hon’ble Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and Hon’ble Finance and Industry Minister Dr Amit Mitra. Of the two tableaus, one contain traditional artists who are under the scheme of ‘Lok Prasar Prakalpa'. The other one contain hoardings giving out messages of harmony and unity. The tableaus released from all the 23 districts will go around the districts till 20th June.

•  Bengal's highest civilian award, "Banga Bibhusan" and "Banga Bhusan", were conferred today on eminent personalities for outstanding contribution in respective fields of literature, medicine, culture, film, industry, and public services. The theme for the day was Unity is Harmony. A beautiful cultural program on this theme was presented by a galaxy of distinguished artists and performers from different genres at Nazrul Mancha. "Banga Bibhusan" was conferred on poet Nirendranath Chakraborty, Musician Bappi Lahiri, industrialist Y C Deveswar, actor Soumitra Chatterjee, pulmonologist Dr Dhiman Ganguly and retired IPS Arun Prasad Mukherjee. "Banga Bhusan" was conferred on gastroentologist Dr Abhijit Chowdhury, actor Chapal Bhaduri, Rabindra Sangeet exponent from Bangladesh, Rezwana Chowdhury Bonya, singer Lakkhshman Das Baul, Fakir and Darbesh singer Khidmat Fakir and folk artiste Ganat Rabha.

The 68th Republic Day
•  With due honour and dignity, the 68th Republic Day celebration was held on Red Road, Kolkata. Hon’ble Governor hoisted the National Flag in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and all the Hon’ble Ministers of the State Cabinet. March pasts by defence forces personnels and state police forces added colours to the event. 22nd Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF)
•  The 22nd Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) was inaugurated today by legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, in the gracious presence of Shah Rukh, Jaya Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Kajol, Parineeti Chopra along with the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and many guests and dignitaries of the industry. Distinguished personalities from all walks of life, national and international delegates and film enthusiasts in huge numbers graced the occasion. 155 films from 65 countries are being screened across 105 screens at 13 venues in Kolkata. The Bengali film ‘The Song of Life’ was screened as the inaugural film. This is the first time that a Bengali film has been selected as the opening film.

•  The West Bengal Government today conferred the Mahanayak Award 2016 to noted music director Bappi Lahiri while felicitating the marvels of the Bengali film industry on the eve of 36th Death Anniversary of film legend Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. Awards for the best film were given to Belaseshe and Sankhachil. Kaushik Ganguly and Gautam Ghosh were honoured with Best Director awards. Bisesh Chalachitra Samman for Acting was given to Paran Bandyopadhyay for Cinemawala and Jishu Sengupta for Bomkesh and Rajkahini while Barsa Sera Chalachitra Samman was awarded to Rituparna Sengupta for Belaseshe and rajkahini and Sohini Sarkar for Bomkesh, Rajkahini and Cinemawala. The Barsa Sera Chalachitara Samman for producers went to Sri Venkatesh Films. Noted film music deirector Bappi Lahiri was awarded tha Mahanayak Samman 2016. The awards were instituted in the year 2012, in the memory of the legendary actor Mahanayak Uttam Kumar.

Baul and Folk festival - 2016
•   Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the Baul and Folk Festival, organised for the first time, at Kenduli in Birbhum. The Government has decided to set up “Joydev Baul Academy” in Kenduli, for preservation, research and further development of this rich folk art. Hon’ble Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of the same. Over one thousand Baul singers under the State Lokprasar Prakalpa performed in a chorus in this programme. She also visited the Joydev Mandir in Kenduli and instructed the district administration to draw up plans to spruce up the area befitting to heritage status. The district administration in association with Tourism Department has built a eco-friendly tourist complex near Bolpur, which was named as “Rangabitan” by the Hon’ble Chief Minister.

20th Jatra Utsav - 2016
•  The 20th "Jatra Utsav", has been inaugurated at Kacchari Maidan in Barasat in presence of Hon'ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. ‘Banglar Jibone Jatra’ is the theme, in this year. The 32-day long Jatra Festival will be showcased both at Kacchari Maidan and Phanibhusan Vidya Binode Yatra Mancha in Bagbzar. Sixteen jatra artistes including Nirmal Mukherje, Jayasree Mukherje were felicitated. Three hundred and eleven poor jatra artistes were given financial assistance. Minakshi Dey was given Bina Dasgupta Award.

Biswa Bangla Lok Sanskriti Utsav - 2015

•  The closing ceremony of the 20th Kolkata International Film Festival was held at Najrul Mancha. Hon’ble guests included Australian filmmaker Paul Kox, filmmaker Farah Khan, actor and theatre personality Amol Palekar, veteran actor Madhabi Mukherjee and other distinguished personalities. For the first time in its history, the festival turned competitive this year and so many films were awarded the ‘Golden Royal Bengal Tiger’ award.

20th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival - 2014
•  The 20th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival was inaugurated by legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The Chief Guest for the programme was celebrated actor Mr Shahrukh Khan. Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Mr Paul Cox was the Special Guest along with actors Jaya Bachchan, Tanuja, Aisharya Rai Bachchan, Avishek Bachchan and Irrfan Khan as other special guests. The film festival, continuing till November 17, will showcase 140 films from 60 countries. There will be 31 Indian films, including 13 Bengali films. For the first time, the fest turns competitive with 15 films by women directors from across the globe competing for the top jury award, the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger trophy in the Women Directors segment. The inaugural film selected is the Italian movie "Italo Barocco" by Alessia Scarso.

Celebration of 68th Independence Day
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee greeted people on the occasion of Independence Day. She was present at the Independence Day parade at Red Road. Hon’ble Chief Minister unfurled the tricolour on Red Road and received a guard of honour from the Kolkata police. Cultural programmes were held by school children and various artistes at the Red Road venue showcasing the cultural heritage of the country. •  The first Kanyashreee Dibas was celebrated today in every block of the State. •  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, at the annual Mahanayak Uttam Kumar Samman at Nazrul Mancha, felicitated cine personalities for their contribution to the Bengali film industry. The awards were instituted in the year 2012, on the initiative of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, in the memory of the legendary actor Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. Veteran actor Mousumi Chatterjee and Bengali film star Dev were the recipients of this year`s Mahanayak Samman (Female and Male respectively). Moonmoon Sen was awarded the Mahanayika Samman. Actors, Chiranjeet Chakraborty, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Mamata Shankar and Debashree Roy were feted with Lifetime Achievement Awards. Special Film Awards were presented to actors Arindam Sil, Hiran Chatterjee, Abir Chatterjee, Indranil Sengupta, Ankush Hazra, Ritwik Chakraborty, Kharaj Mukherjee, Rudranil Ghosh, Mimi Chakraborty,Sayantika Banerjee, Paoli Dam, Nusrat Jahan, Sreela Majumdar and Anuradha Roy. Veteran playback artiste Kumar Sanu was felicitated with Lifetime Achievement Award for Music , while Special Film Awards (Music) were presented to Shibaji Chattopadhyay, Arundhati Home Chowdhury and Adhir Chatterjee. Special Film awards for cinematography were given to Sirsha Roy and Shoumik Haldar while that of Editing was given to Bodhaditya Banerjee and Debkanta Chakraborty. Surinder Films received the Special Film award for the best Producer. Dipankar Chaki and Goutam Nag were awarded for sound recording while Azad Ahmed received the award for makeup. The award for art direction was given to Tanmoy Chakroborty and Goutam Bose while that for costume went to Sabarni Das. Special film awards for Direction were bestowed to Swapan Saha, Kamaleshwar Mukherjee and Prodipto Bhattacharyya. Hon’ble Chief Minister, on the occasion said that she firmly believed that the golden era of Bengali film and television industry will return. She said that it was necessary to honour talent in Bengal.
