•   The West Bengal Government conferred the prestigious “Tarana-e-Hindi” Award posthumously on Allama Iqbal, the great poet who penned the famous patriotic piece, “Sare Jahan Se Accha Hindustan Hamara…” in a colourful programme at Nazrul Mancha. The award, from Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was received by Prof. Dr. Waleed Iqbal, grandson of Allama Iqbal.

•  West Bengal Government celebrated the 116th birth anniversary of the Rebel Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam through a special cultural programme at Nazrul Mancha in presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. On this day the Government gave away awards and recognition to various eminent stalwarts from fields of art and culture. These awards were given by the academies and councils under the I & C A Department. Nazrul Smriti Puraskar was awarded to Dilip Kumar Roy. Rabindra Smriti Purskar was awarded to Goutam Bose and Sugata Bose. Bankim Smriti Puraskar was awarded to Sanjib Chatterjee and Arun Sen. Allauddin Smriti Puruskar (Rajya Sangeet Academy) was awarded to Budhaditya Mukherjee. Udayshankar Smriti Puraskar was awarded to Rani Karna. Girija Shankar Smriti Puruskar was awarded to Subhra Guha and Gyanprakash Ghosh Smriti Puraskar was awarded to Pt Gobinda Bose. Dinabandu Mitra Smriti Puruskar (Paschim Banga Natya Academy) was awarded to Jogesh Dutta. From the Rajya Charukala Parshad, Abanindranath Smriti Puruskar was awarded to Dipak Banerjee. Binodbehari puraskar was awarded to Amalnath Chakladar and Ramkinkar Baij was awarded to Subhas Roy. A special prize was awarded to sculptor Sushanta Roy. From the Lok Sanskriti and Advasi Sanskriti department, Sudhi Pradhan Smriti Puruskar was awarded to Sunil Mahato, Lalan Smriti Puruskar was awarded to Soumen Biswas, Raghunath Smriti Puruskar was awarded to Yuboraj Soren and Panchanan Burma Smriti Puruskar was awarded to Kamalesh Sarkar. On behalf of Paschim Banga Jatra Academy, Bina Dasgupta Smriti Samman was awarded to Minakshi Dey. The Bidyasagar Smriti Puruskar for the year 2013 and 2014 awarded by the Sishu Kishor Academy was awarded to Adrish Bardhanand Kartik Ghosh respectively. Upendrakishor Smriti Puruskar was awarded to Ratantanu Ghati.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee chaired an administrative meeting with the district officials of the North 24 Parganas district at Nazrul Mancha in Madhyamgram. After the meeting the Hon’ble Chief Minister informed that it was the 91st administrative meeting she was holding in the districts and these meetings are very productive. She said that a lot of work has been taken up for the North 24 Parganas, their status was reviewed in this meeting and problems were sorted out.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, on the third day of her visit to Bardhaman, Purulia, Bankura and Jhargram, was present at a Government programme at Raipiur. She inaugurated several important projects like the Patrasayer-Danna Eco Tourism Park, a Karma Tirtha at Bishnupur, a blood Bank at Khatra, among others. She also laid the foundation stones of numerous projects like new bridges, roads, administrative buildings, water supply projects, tourism projects, grain godowns, and a common facility centre for Dokra craftsmen at Bikna. Hon’ble Chief Minister distributed from the stage benefits and grants like Kanyashree, forest and land pattas, scholarships, sports equipment and agricultural machinery.

•   An Earthquake once again struck many parts of our State and other parts of the country and abroad. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appealed to the people to maintain calm. She said that the State Government will provide all support. The West Bengal Government had started a round-the-clock control room at Nabanna. She inaugurated the new building of the Kazi Nazrul Islam University near the poet’s birthplace at Churulia and laid foundation stone for a 300-bed multi super hospital at Asansol among other projects.

•   Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at a programme organized by the Central Government where three social security schemes — Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY), were launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, Kesari Nath Tripathi and Hon’ble Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha were also present on the occasion.

•   Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi at Raj Bhavan, Kolkata and handed him a memorandum detailing the financial demands concerning the development of West Bengal .

•  India's 1st private greenfield airport set up in collaboration with Changi International Airport, Singapore is ready for commercial operation, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced at Nabanna. The airport at Andal has been named after Kazi Nazrul Islam. Flight services will commence at Andal airport from May 18, Hon’ble Chief Minister announced. Air India will fly to and fro from Kolkata to Delhi and Mumbai. Operators have proposed to keep fares reasonable. Hon’ble Chief Minister also announced that the Government has exempted sales tax on aviation for the airport till 2021 and is taking steps to compensate those provided the land. Special discount of 25 percent will be available to students, patients, family members of land givers for the project and all state government officers, she said.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the prize distribution of the Sunderbans Football Cup 2014 at Namkhana. She announced that the State has adopted a Sports Policy and those associated with sports will get added advantage in employment. Hon’ble Chief Minister said the Government will give assistance to local clubs for developing sports infrastructure.

•   The “Sabar Souchagar” (toilet for all) project in West Bengal’s Nadia district, framed under the state’s Nirmal Bangla Mission and aimed at promoting cleanliness and sanitation in rural Bengal, has been won the prestigious United Nations Public Service Award 2015. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the news of this path-breaking achievement of West Bengal during a Government programme at Namkhana in South 24 Parganas. The Award will be handed over by the United Nations Secretary-General on 23rd June, 2015 in Medellin, Republic of Colombia.

•   Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the Panitanki check post on the Indo-Nepal border today to oversee the passage of truckloads of relief materials from India to Nepal after the devastating earthquake that shook Nepal. West Bengal Government has sent 35 trucks to Nepal with water, medicines, dry and packaged food, tarpaulins among other things. Hon. Minister of Urban Development of Nepal, Dr Narayan Khadka, Hon. MPs, officials of Nepal Government were present on the occasion.
