•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a statement informed that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of West Bengal has more than doubled from nearly Rs.4.61 Lakh Crore in 2010-11 to Rs.9.20 Lakh Crore in 2015-16. This quantum jump has been possible, partly due to massive increase in plan expenditure and partly due to huge creation of permanent assets in the state through increased capital expenditure, she stated. She also informed that the plan expenditure in the state has increased by nearly 4 times from Rs.14,615 Crore in 2010-11 to Rs.54,069 Crore in 2015-16 and capital expenditure has increased by nearly 7 times from Rs.2225 Crore in 2010-11 to Rs.15,946 Crore in 2015-16.

•  Eminent author, social worker and activist Mahashweta Devi breathed her last on Thursday. She was given a State Funeral. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present on the occasion at Keoratala Burning Ghat, where her last rites were performed.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee paid a courtesy call to the Hon’ble President of India Pranab Mukherjee. Later in the day, the Hon’ble Chief Minister had a discussion with the Hon’ble Rail Minister Suresh Prabhu regarding status of different railway projects in West Bengal.

•  Eminent author, social worker and activist Mahashweta Devi passed away. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her grief and paid condolence to her family.

•  Seeking loan waiver and adequate Central funds for West Bengal, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday met the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Hon’ble Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley at Delhi. She also put forward Bengal’s demand regarding Central funds for flood relief and disaster management.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived in Delhi on a three-day visit. The Hon’ble Chief Minister will hold meeting with the Hon’ble Prime Ministers and other Union Minister regarding Bengal’s debt burden and other important issues, during the coming days.

•  The West Bengal Government today conferred the Mahanayak Award 2016 to noted music director Bappi Lahiri while felicitating the marvels of the Bengali film industry on the eve of 36th Death Anniversary of film legend Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. Awards for the best film were given to Belaseshe and Sankhachil. Kaushik Ganguly and Gautam Ghosh were honoured with Best Director awards. Bisesh Chalachitra Samman for Acting was given to Paran Bandyopadhyay for Cinemawala and Jishu Sengupta for Bomkesh and Rajkahini while Barsa Sera Chalachitra Samman was awarded to Rituparna Sengupta for Belaseshe and rajkahini and Sohini Sarkar for Bomkesh, Rajkahini and Cinemawala. The Barsa Sera Chalachitara Samman for producers went to Sri Venkatesh Films. Noted film music deirector Bappi Lahiri was awarded tha Mahanayak Samman 2016. The awards were instituted in the year 2012, in the memory of the legendary actor Mahanayak Uttam Kumar.

•  A new Integrated Check Post at Petrapole, the biggest land port of South Asia, on the Indo-Bangladesh border was dedicated today through a video-conference ceremony in between the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, the Hon’ble External Affairs Minister of India Sushma Swaraj and the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who joined the conference from Nabanna. This new facility will improve further the bilateral ties between the two countries and give a significant boost to trade and commerce in the region.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while addressing the press at Nabanna informed about the formation of the Industrial Investment Promotion Board (IIPB), which will be an umbrella organization of all industry-related corporations and other bodies of the State Government. The officials from Finance, Commerce and Industries, MSME, information technology, Land and Land revenue, Fisheries, Tourism and Transport will be members of the new board, she informed.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee informed that the Government would invite the Hon’ble President of India to be the chief guest at the State’s upcoming Bengal Global Business Summit 2017.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today informed that keeping in mind the huge problem of the common people in getting a LPG connection, which is expensive and sometimes beyond the reach of the them, the State Government has decided to create an alternative pipeline for supply of gas that will be cheap and environment friendly. In the next three years the state government will build its own pipeline network through GCGSC, she informed.

•  The 202nd Birth Anniversary of great poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya was celbrated today at Chowrasta in Darjeeling through a beautiful cultural programme,in presence of the Hon’ble President of India. Hon’ble West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi and the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were present on the occasion along with distinguished guests and Government officials. During her address, Hon’ble Chief Minister announced the formation of separate development boards for the Kami, Damai and Sarki communities. She also announced the Government’s decision to hold some the Cabinet Meetings in Darjeeling.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached North Bengal on Monday afternoon during her first visit to Darjeeling as Chief Minister for the second term. The West Bengal Government will host a State reception in honour of the Hon’ble President of India at the Darjeeling Mall on Tuesday, where the Hon’ble Chief Minister will be present. The Hon’ble Chief Minister will be in Darjeeling till July 15, before leaving for Delhi.

•   The West Bengal Government has launched today the “Safe Drive, Save Life” campaign with focus on saving lives on the road by maintaining road culture, sensible driving, road safety, and caring for all road users. The initiative was launched by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. At a programme organised by the Transport Department and the Kolkata Police, at Nazrul Mancha, Hon’ble Chief Minister invited the wholehearted participation of all to join this massive program to ensure road safety and save lives to make it successful. The collective pledge of this programme is – “Safe Drive, Save Life”. Today’s program saw the launching of the theme song and campaign materials.

•  The Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee informed through a message that road safety is a very important aspect in the lives of the citizens of the State. She pointed out that safe driving is an essential component of road safety and every day, many lives are lost due to irresponsible driving and insensible road behaviour. To inculcate sense of safe driving and responsible road behaviour, the Government is launching a unique initiative named 'Safe Drive, Save Life" from tomorrow, the Hon’ble Chief Minister informed. It is targeted to achieve cohesion among civil society, police, transport, health, roads and other government departments and NGOs to sensitize people about different aspects of safe driving and road safety, she pointed out. She urged all take collective pledge to use roads sensibly, drive responsibly and ensure safety of everyone on the roads and to join in this unique program and work together for safety on the roads.

•  Condemning the terror attack in Bangladesh, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on said terrorists have no religion and everybody should unite to fight against terrorism. While speaking at the West Bengal Assembly, she said that the administration had alerted the bordering police stations and appealed to the people that they should inform the police if they come across anything suspicious.
