•  The State-level Teachers’ Day celebration was organised by the government for the first time in Darjeeling. On this auspicious day, foundation stone of the new Darjeeling Hill University at Mungpoo was laid by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This is the first state-aided university to be set up in the Hills since independence and will offer study programs in travel and tourism management, tea management, horticulture, Himalayan studies, apart from humanities, science, IT and media. She extended her best wishes and support to her on the occasion. A number of new projects were also flagged off today and government benefits handed over to a large number of beneficiaries. School children were given school bags and raincoats as part of a new project launched by the government for school children of the hills. The Hon’ble Chief Minister said that the Government is committed to overall development of the hill districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended a high level review meeting with Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) officials today. Addressing the press after the meeting, she said that short-term, mid-term, and long-term plans will be taken up for the development of the Hills. A committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, which will present a detailed report in six months, she said. She informed that the new university in Mungpoo will be named ‘Darjeeling Hill University’. She also pointed out that the State Government is setting up an education hub in Kurseong. Presidency University is setting up a campus in the Hills, she said. From cinchona plantation, agriculture, sericulture, tourism, entertainment, IT, software – everything was discussed in today’s meeting, she said.
