•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present in the prize distribution ceremony of Himal-Terai-Dooars Sports Festival, 2016 and the first anniversary celebration of Sherpa Cultural Board in North Point, Darjeeling. She also attended ‘Uttar Banga Utsav 2016’ being held in Mal, Darjeeling.

•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the 900 acre “Bengal Safari” at the North Bengal Wild Animals Park, near Siliguri. Besides, she laid foundation stone of a number of projects including a new College of Animal and Fishery Sciences, Women’s police station, chicken and pork processing plant, breeding farm and hatchery, library and many other projects. She also informed that a new health insurance scheme is being started for the journalists, it will be effective from March 1, 2016.

Kenduli, Birbhum
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the Deocha Pachami Dewanganj Harinsingha Coal Mines at Birbhum from a programme at Kenduli, Birbhum. This is the largest Coal Block in the country with coal reserves of around 21000 million tonnes. The extracted coal is to be used for power generation. Hon’ble Chief Minister said that the coal fields may generate more than one lakh employment opportunities. The project is a joint venture of the West Bengal Mineral Development and Trading Corporation Limited and the Bengal Birbhum Coalfields Limited.

Salboni, West Medinipur
•   Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, during her two-day visit to Jangalmahal, today was present at the inauguration programme of a cement plant at Salboni belonging to the Jindal Steel Works Group. The JSW’s cement plant marks the revival of the biggest investment proposal in Bengal since Independence -Rs 35,000 crore for an integrated steel, power and cement plant. The company plans to set up a 2.4 MT cement grinding unit followed by a 300 MW captive power plant at Salboni.

Medinipur College Ground, Paschim Medinipur
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today inaugurated the second edition of the Jangalmahal Utsav from the Medinipur College Ground, Paschim Medinipur. The Hon’ble Chief Minister also distributed prizes for the Jangalmahal Cup today. On the day, she inaugurated the 300-bedded Onda Super Specialty Hospital and Chhatna Super Specialty Hospital from the same venue. The Jangalmahal Utsav, to be held from January 5 – 9, 2016, will focus on tribal music, folk songs from Bengal and also showcase the handicrafts from Jangal Mahal.
