International Mother Language Day- 2014
•  The West Bengal government will build a Martyrs’ Memorial in Kolkata to honour those who sacrificed their lives in the Bengali Language Movement in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) in 1952, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said at an event to observe the International Mother Language Day at Deshapriya Park, Kolkata.

Charukala Utsab- 2014
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated Charukala Utsav 2014 at Academy of Fine Arts. The festival will continue till February 23. On this occasion 4 eminent artistes were felicitated with Shilpi Sampan and Shilpi Mahasamman. She also ceremonially published a book of paintings by Jamini Roy. 'Shilpi Moha Somman' award has been conferred to Dhirendranath Brahma, Rabindranath Mandal, Kartik Pain, Prakash Karmakar and Uma Siddahnta while 'Shilpi Somman' was conferred to Sunil Dey, Ashok Bhowmik and Arun Kumar Chakraborty.

Mati Utsab- 2014
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the Maati Utsab 2014 at Birudiha, Panagarh, Bardhaman. The festival promotes cultures and traditions of rural Bengal that are fast losing out to urbanisation. Litterateur and social activist Mahasweta Debi and actor Prasenjit Chatterjee were present on the occasion alongside cabinet ministers and other dignitaries.

Bangla Sangeet Mela- 2014
•  Bangla Sangeet Mela 2014 is being held across 9 venues in Kolkata from February 11 to February 17. This annual event was inaugurated on February 10 by Hon'ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Science City Main Auditorium. Hon'ble Chief Minister felicitated the legends of Bengali music by honouring them with Sangeet Samman and Sangeet Mahasamman in the inaugural ceremony.

Technicians Studio renovated
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated renovated Technicians` Studio at Tollygaunge. The renovated studio was opened in the glorious presence of a galaxy of eminent personalities of the cultural and entertainment world of Tollywood and Tellywood in a unique programme.

Inauguratin of 18th Jatra Festival
•  Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the 18th edition of the Jatra Festival at Kacchari Maidan in Barasat. The festival will be held from February 6 to 8 at the Kachari Maidan and from February 7 to 28 at Fanibhusan Bidyabinod Jatra Mancha at Bag Bazar. On the inaugural ceremony, Organized by the Paschim Banga Jatra Academy under the Information & Cultural Affairs of the State Government, the festival will see participance of jatra performing teams from various districts. . She announced that the pension being provided by the state government to out of work and poor Jatra artistes has been raised from Rs 7000 to Rs 8000.
